What
People Say About Macrobiotics:
Questions and Answers with Gale
Jack
| Q
| How
did you start with macrobiotics?
A
|
The church that I was attending in
Dallas, Texas, sponsored a seminar by Michio and Aveline Kushi in 1979. I had
been eating a raw food-juice diet for about a year prior to that and my skin was
orange and I had been told that my bones were dissolving so I started macrobiotics,
driving 38 miles one way for cooking classes. Potlucks in the area brought the
macrobiotic friends together and I learned a lot from them then came to Boston
in the summer of 1980 to study more. |
| Q
| How
has macrobiotics helped you?
A
|
Macrobiotics has helped me in many
ways. Day to day I feel peaceful and emotionally stable. I suffer from few of
the complaints that often accompany aging such as arthritis, hemorhoids, insomnia,
not to mention the more degenerative conditions such as cancer and heart disease.
I've saved thousands on health insurance over the years and have almost no medical
expenses and take no prescription drugs. (I had my 64th birthday in May 2003)

| Q
| What
do you offer and specialise in?
A
| Although
I am qualified to teach macrotiotic cooking and guide others through consultations,
I focus most of my time on the immediate family and keeping the household going.
I occasionally provide guidance by phone or e-mail and do accept payment by credit
card but my husband, Alex, does most of the work with the greater family. I occasionally
accept young people into the home as student assistants. |
|
Q
| What
one piece of advice would you give to someone trying macrobiotics for the first
time? | |
A
| For
someone trying macrobiotics for the first time, I would suggest making changes
gradually, beginning with adding brown rice and/or barley and millet to the existing
diet along with miso soup while reducing animal food and more extreme substances
such as alcohol, cola drinks, and so on. I would also suggest that they seek out
and stay in contact with health-minded people |
