What People Say About Macrobiotics:
Questions and Answers with Andrew Vavrek

Q How did you start with macrobiotics?

A Paul Johnson, our banjo player and vocalist, along with John E, our drummer, both grew up completely macrobiotic within the Lonia Community in Alaska (www.ionia.org).
At Ionia, macrobiotics is an entire way of life experienced by everyone there.
Children are raised knowing nearly nothing else!

As for me, I began a macrobiotic practice around 10 years ago after gaining an interest in meditation. I was working for IBM at the time and after finding a lack of fulfillment at the peak of my success with
the corporate 'American Dream,' I started a path of focusing inward.
This inner practice eventually brought me to evaluate my entire lifestyle, thus bringing me to macrobiotics.

The very first book I read, 'An Introduction to Macrobiotics' by Carolyn Heidenry, made immediate and lasting sense to me. The very day I read it, I cleaned out all of my cupboards and started cooking whole foods.Once I became macrobiotic, I quit IBM and began work with the Kushi Institute, where I met a number Ionian community members, then eventually Paul and John. Then we started a band!

How has macrobiotics helped you?
Unmeasurably! Macrobiotics has been a key part of my life. Macrobiotics has given me vast energy, the ability to heal, as well as prevent illness, clarity of mind, and strength of spirit. Macrobiotic principles and philosophy are so vital! Macrobiotics continues to serve as a bridge towards my own
self-realization.

What do you offer and specialise in?
Well, ultimately, we offer everything and we don't specialise, as we are all infinity itself... :) But a more common answer to this one would be: we offer music, and we specialise in having a good time!
All of our music recordings are published free online at the following addresses:www.thebond.org

What one piece of advice would you give to someone trying macrobiotics for the first time?
Keep at it! Keep your eyes open, outward and inward.
